About Akimbo Creations
Akimbo Creations was an independent Vancouver-based video game development and distributed-systems software studio founded in 2015 by technology entrepreneur Behrouz Poustchi. The company combined interactive entertainment development with research into multiplayer networking infrastructure, aiming to reduce the dedicated server hardware and bandwidth demands of synchronous online games.
Its central technical effort was a proprietary peer-to-peer, fault-tolerant distributed networking architecture. Designed for integration with Unreal Engine 4 and Unity, the middleware used distributed peers for state synchronization, physical interactions and dynamic authority reassignment. The approach was intended to avoid large client-server farms while supporting resilient multiplayer experiences.
Game development
Akimbo Creations demonstrated this technology through ARC Continuum (also styled ARC-Continuum), a third-person science-fiction action-adventure role-playing game. The game follows Hadrian, who uses an artifact known as the ARC to manipulate time by rewinding, slowing events and summoning alternate timeline versions for cooperative multiplayer play.
The title received Steam Greenlight approval in eleven days and launched in Steam Early Access on January 10, 2017. Akimbo Creations served as both developer and publisher.
