About Airship
Airship is a British external game-art and co-development studio serving the games industry. Operating under the Airship brand, it provides production support across character and creature work, environments, hard-surface assets, technical art, cinematics and real-time VFX. Its work spans milestone-based art outsourcing as well as embedded development support for client teams.
Founded in 2010 by Joe Harford, the studio developed from a 3D art outsourcing provider into a specialist partner for AAA game production. Character and creature modelling, texturing, environment art, modular kits, set dressing, foliage, props and weapons are among its established production capabilities.
Real-time hair and technical art
A particular area of focus is real-time digital hair and grooming. Airship has developed proprietary workflows for hair pipelines, real-time hair-card placement and Unreal Engine grooming, alongside technical-art services such as custom tools, shaders, pipeline optimisation, performance audits and engine integration for Unreal Engine and Unity projects.
Its HORIZONS service places dedicated artists, animators, technical artists and level designers within client production pipelines, while its outsourcing work covers end-to-end asset delivery. The studio also supports in-engine cinematics, real-time effects, motion-capture data processing and promotional trailers.
Selected work
Airship's supported credits include Baldur's Gate 3, Ghost of Yōtei, The Outer Worlds 2, Pax Dei, PGA TOUR 2K25, Fortnite, Diablo IV, Forza Horizon 5, Warhammer 40,000: Darktide and Gotham Knights. Its contributions include more than 90 hairstyles and grooms for Baldur's Gate 3, alongside hair, grooming, character, creature and environment work across other productions.
The studio uses a remote-first operating model, with globally distributed artists able to work remotely and a physical production hub at Alderley Park in Cheshire. In July 2025, the business, assets and operational team of the predecessor Airship Interactive Ltd transferred to successor entity Airmergent Limited following the predecessor's administration. Airship continues to trade under its established public brand.
