About Aircraft Pictures
Aircraft Pictures is a Toronto-based independent film and television production company creating scripted live-action and animated entertainment for kids, families and young adults. Founded in 2005 by producers Anthony Leo and Andrew Rosen, the company develops, finances and produces work across theatrical features, television and streaming platforms.
Its work spans original IP development, literary adaptations, creative packaging, physical production, executive producing and production management. International treaty co-productions and multi-territory financing are central to its operating model, enabling collaborations with broadcasters, platforms and production partners in Canada, the United States and Europe.
Screen work
The company has produced family and youth-oriented comedy, drama, animation and genre projects for outlets including Hulu, Apple TV+, Netflix, CBC Kids, CBBC, YTV, Family Channel and Roku. Its productions include the five-season live-action series Holly Hobbie, the Apple TV+ science-fiction anthology Circuit Breakers, Popularity Papers, Gangnam Project, Summer Memories, Raising Expectations, Bruno & Boots, Todd & The Book of Pure Evil and What’s Up, Warthogs!
Aircraft co-produced the animated feature The Breadwinner with Cartoon Saloon and Melusine Productions. Directed by Nora Twomey, the film received Academy Award and Golden Globe nominations for Best Animated Feature and won an Annie Award and a Los Angeles Film Critics Association Award.
More recent work includes the Netflix comedy-drama Geek Girl, the theatrical sports drama Youngblood, and the animated feature Julián, which is being co-produced with Cartoon Saloon and European partners. The company is also developing the live-action adventure series The Emperor’s Stone for an international broadcaster group.
Independent ownership
Corus Entertainment acquired a majority stake in Aircraft Pictures Limited in 2022. In August 2024, co-founders Anthony Leo and Andrew Rosen completed a share buyback of Corus’s holding, restoring their sole ownership of the company and its independent status.
