Originally focused on Class II electronic gaming machines for Native American tribal gaming, the company now serves land-based commercial and tribal casinos, historical horse racing facilities, and digital real-money and social-casino markets.

The company expanded its product and interactive operations through acquisitions including Colossal Gaming, Cadillac Jack, and RocketPlay. It launched a dedicated Table Products division in 2014 and completed an IPO on the New York Stock Exchange in 2018. In June 2025, Brightstar Capital Partners completed the acquisition of PlayAGS, Inc., returning the business to private ownership.
