About Abylight Studios
Abylight Studios is an independent Barcelona-based video game developer and publisher whose origins date to 2004. The business began as a development and technical-porting studio built by veterans of 8-bit and 16-bit game development, then expanded into commercial publishing, co-production, platform adaptation, and physical editions.
The company operates through complementary in-house development and publishing functions. Abylight Barcelona handles game production and technical porting, while the Abylight Studios publishing label manages international releases, project financing, quality assurance, marketing, and commercial distribution. Its integrated shop supports deluxe physical and collector’s editions for independent games.
Development and publishing
Abylight develops original games while working with external creators and rights holders to bring titles to additional platforms and formats. Its capabilities include:
- Full-cycle game development across strategy, simulation, tycoon, and action projects
- Console porting and technical adaptation for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation, Xbox, and iOS
- Digital, retail, and physical-edition publishing
- Quality assurance, compliance testing, localization, PR, influencer outreach, and marketing
- IP creation, co-production, project financing, and third-party development services
Its original projects include One Military Camp, a simulation tycoon game released in 2023, and the historical strategy game Citadelum from 2024. The studio has also adapted and published independent games in collaboration with their original creators, including Hyper Light Drifter – Special Edition with Heart Machine, Cursed Castilla and Super Hydorah with Locomalito, and console and physical-edition work involving Frictional Games’ SOMA and Amnesia titles.
In 2026, the company broadened its development presence through Abylight Buenos Aires, a remote regional team focused on emerging platforms and LATAM talent integration. This expansion continues Abylight’s combination of internal development, technical adaptation, and international publishing for PC, console, mobile, and augmented-reality markets.
