About Absolutely Games

Absolutely Games is an independent British video game developer based in Guildford, Surrey. Founded in October 2019 by James Brooksby and Adrian Hawkins, the studio creates original strategy, tactics, worldbuilding and puzzle games for PC and consoles.

Its development work spans full-cycle game production, original IP, game design, programming, co-development and milestone production. The team works with Unreal Engine and Unity, with a focus on deep, replayable experiences intended to become long-term player hobbies.

Games

The studio made its commercial debut with Classified: France ’44, a World War II turn-based tactical game published by Team17. Released in March 2024 for PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S, it places players in covert Allied and French Resistance operations ahead of D-Day.

Absolutely Games later broadened its slate with Fangtopia, a cozy Halloween-themed hex-tile kingdom builder and puzzle game. Following its initial demo release, the game was signed by Secret Mode for a multiplatform launch on PC, PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch 2.

The studio is also working with Team17 on the revival of the Worms franchise. Announced projects include Worms Galactic Tactics, a 3D turn-based roguelike tactics game with destructible terrain planned for 2027, and an additional unannounced modern entry in the core series.

Leadership and background

James Brooksby is CEO and co-founder, and Adrian Hawkins is co-founder and Chief Technology Officer. Before founding the studio, Brooksby had previously founded Born Ready Studios and Edge Case Games; the latter was acquired by Wargaming in 2018.

Early backing and working approach

The studio received seed backing from Rebellion co-founder Chris Kingsley OBE and Anime Virtual founder Cedric Littardi. It describes its development philosophy as “no-BS, no-politics,” with an emphasis on making deep, replayable games for players.
