About A52
A52 is a visual effects and post-production studio founded in 1997 by editor and filmmaker Angus Wall. Operating legally as a52 LLC and publicly branded as MakeMake VFX, the studio specializes in photoreal visual effects, CGI, compositing, finishing, and color workflows for advertising, film, television, streaming, music videos, and immersive media.
Its work combines 2D and 3D character and environment animation with set extensions, matte painting, beauty work, cleanup, rig removal, and on-set VFX supervision. The studio’s finishing practice includes Flame and Nuke compositing, digital intermediate workflows, color grading, and remote review pipelines. Supported technical capabilities include Quantum StorNext storage infrastructure, Massive crowd-simulation software, Baselight grading systems, and Dolby Vision-certified HDR finishing suites.
Screen and campaign work
A52’s supported credits span commercial and entertainment work, including:
- Nike’s “Future is Fast” and “Winning Isn’t For Everyone”
- Jordan Brand’s “Jordan Can’t Ban Greatness”
- CareerBuilder.com Super Bowl campaigns
- Zodiac, including its San Francisco Chronicle timeline montage
- House of Cards, Game of Thrones, and Carnivàle
- Netflix documentary projects including The Greatest Night in Pop, Being Eddie, and Elway
The studio originally operated alongside sister editorial company Rock Paper Scissors and relocated from West Hollywood in 2007. Between 2023 and 2025, Angus Wall consolidated a group of specialist creative companies under the MakeMake banner. Within that unified collective, A52 continues as the dedicated visual-effects operation, retaining its VFX-focused team and public MakeMake VFX identity.
A52’s practice brings together visual-effects conception, 3D CGI animation, advanced compositing, digital environments, finishing, grading, previsualization, and technical workflow design for narrative and brand storytelling.
