A Productions

A Productions is a Bristol-based, creative-led animation studio and production company focused on children’s and preschool entertainment. Founded in 1985 by Mark Taylor as A for Animation, it began with broadcast title sequences and music promos before expanding into long-form animated series, specials, short films, commercials, interstitials and idents.

The studio works across traditional hand-drawn and digital 2D animation, 3D/CGI, stop-motion and live-action/animation integration. Its full-service production offer spans scriptwriting and story editing, concept and character development, background styling, storyboarding, animatics, animation production, asset creation, voice-recording management, compositing, visual effects, sound synchronisation, delivery and mastering. It also undertakes international co-productions and animation service work for broadcasters and streaming platforms.

Children’s and family work

A Productions’ credits include JoJo & Gran Gran, My Friend Maisy, The Underglow, Monster Makes, Love Monster, Pip and Posy Let’s Learn, Bea’s Block, The Makery and Boo!. Its work for Sesame Workshop and HBO Max includes The Monster at the End of This Story, Furry Friends Forever: Elmo Gets a Puppy and Sesame Street: The Nutcracker starring Elmo & Tango.

JoJo & Gran Gran, made with BBC Studios Kids & Family for CBeebies, was the first British preschool animated series centred on a Black British family. The studio has also contributed animation to Morph and has a heritage in broadcast titles including Antiques Roadshow, The Really Wild Show and Playbus.

Independent operation

The company was incorporated in 2000 and adopted the name A Productions Limited in 2001. Cyber Group Studios acquired a majority stake in 2022, before Managing Director Katherine McQueen and founder Mark Taylor completed a management buyout in July 2025. A Productions is now independently owned, with McQueen leading the business as Managing Director and Taylor continuing as a consultant and shareholder.
