About A+C Studios
A+C Studios is an independent British animation production company specialising in handcrafted stop-motion, claymation and mixed-media storytelling. Founded in Margate in 2007 by animator and director Dan Richards, the studio began as Animate & Create before developing its public identity as A+C Studios.
The company delivers end-to-end animation production, from early creative development through fabrication, shooting and finishing. Its work combines tactile craft with contemporary production techniques, creating character-led campaigns, branded content, idents and entertainment work for commercial and broadcast audiences.
Animation and production capabilities
A+C Studios’ services span:
- Concept development, scriptwriting, storyboarding and character design
- Puppet fabrication, model making, set construction and papercraft
- Stop-frame and table-top animation, including Claymation and product animation
- Motion-control shooting, multi-bay animation setups and live-action inserts
- Mixed-media work combining stop-motion with 2D graphics and live footage
- In-house editing, compositing, colour grading, sound design and master delivery
The studio also provides production-stage hire through its Margate facilities, supporting wet and dry shoots as well as animation production. Its Postgate Stage offers a pre-rigged grid, motion-control track and infrastructure designed for multiple animation units.
Work and clients
A+C Studios has created projects for organisations and brands including LEGO, Universal Pictures, BBC Studios, Nike, IKEA, Harrods, Peperami, Adidas and British Airways. Selected work includes Bluey – Bluey Tunes for BBC Studios, LEGO x Disney’s Bricks Of Our Lives, the Wicked brickified trailers for Universal Pictures, the BBC Sport Wimbledon 2025 Opening Title, Harrods’ The Land of Make Believe, and IKEA’s Everyday Play campaign.
Alongside founder-led work, the company represents a roster of independent animation directors and develops original projects, including the animated series Muffin Mumma. Its practice is rooted in physical model-making and frame-by-frame performance, supported by post-production and visual-effects finishing.

Origins and operating model
Founder and director Dan Richards established the business after professional work at Aardman Animations, initially working from a Kent garden workshop with Plasticine and a single camera. The company now combines a permanent core team with specialist freelance animators, directors and model makers.
Postgate Stage
The Postgate Stage facility is named in tribute to Kent stop-motion pioneer Oliver Postgate, associated with Bagpuss and The Clangers. Its pre-rigged lighting grid, three-phase power, motion-control tracks and green-screen cyc support up to 15 stop-motion shooting bays as well as larger live-action and drama builds.
