8th Frame

8th Frame is a Brooklyn-based animation and motion design studio founded in 2016 by Ryan Scammell and Michael Rootare. The independent boutique practice creates 2D and 3D animation, motion graphics, visual effects, broadcast design, and environmental screen experiences for live events, brands, entertainment, and cultural institutions.

Its work combines hand-drawn animation, photorealistic 3D design, procedural motion graphics, lighting, and compositing. The studio develops visual systems for keynote environments and broadcasts, including opening films, walk-in loops, speaker introductions, lower thirds, transition graphics, and animated templates. Its production toolkit includes Cinema 4D, Redshift, Octane Render, and Adobe After Effects, with ACEScg colour-management workflows supporting consistent rendering and compositing across screens and digital formats.

Event, Brand and Cultural Work

8th Frame has created conference and product visuals for organisations including FactSet, AHIMA, Snowflake, the National Association of REALTORS®, and the American Geophysical Union. For FactSet Focus 2024, it produced a racecar-themed keynote opener alongside lower thirds, speaker introductions, transitions, and walk-in content. Its Loeb Awards work spans annual ceremonial visual packages and opening-sequence animation from 2016 to 2025.

The studio also works on experiential and public-facing projects. It collaborated with Nike and Chemistry Creative on a projection-mapped history of Air Jordan sneaker silhouettes for a monolithic display, and was commissioned by the New York Public Library to restore and project-map Thomas Jefferson’s handwritten Declaration of Independence for America’s 250th anniversary. For Disney’s Ad Sales Virtual Summit, it built period-specific virtual living-room environments inspired by WandaVision.

Animation and Visual Effects

Selected work includes animated explainer films for the Institute for New Economic Thinking, feature visual effects and compositing for Snatchers, and digital collectible campaigns for OneOf and The Recording Academy’s 64th and 65th Annual Grammy Awards. Across these projects, 8th Frame applies creative direction, look development, modelling, texturing, rendering, animation, compositing, and post-production to translate complex stories into screen-based experiences.
