3rd Eye Studios

3rd Eye Studios was an independent Helsinki game developer and XR tools studio focused on atmospheric, first-person science-fiction experiences for virtual reality and conventional screens. Founded in 2016, the Finnish company developed games designed around zero-gravity movement, environmental storytelling, and accessible VR interaction.

Its technology work centred on 3rd Eye Core, a proprietary cross-platform development framework created to support VR, PC, and mobile game development. The toolset included zero-gravity inertial locomotion systems intended to let players move through space environments by grabbing surfaces, using grappling lines, and firing thrusters while reducing simulator-sickness concerns.

Games and interactive work

The studio’s debut release was Downward Spiral: Prologue (2017), a PC VR proof-of-concept chapter with an ambient score by Ville Valo. It followed with Downward Spiral: Horus Station (2018), a zero-gravity narrative thriller set aboard an abandoned space station. The title launched for PC with VR and flat-screen support, then reached PlayStation 4 and PlayStation VR.

The studio’s work emphasized dialogue-free environmental and visual storytelling, using the setting and player movement to convey the experience rather than relying on conventional cutscenes.

3rd Eye Studios ceased operations in 2023. Its Finnish trade-register status was recorded as ceased on March 8, 2023, and its former official website is no longer active.
