About 2CTV
2CTV is a Ghana-based mobile television and streaming platform operated through 2C Digital Media Ltd. and managed from Accra. It provides live television and video-on-demand services designed for mobile audiences and African network conditions, with availability centred on Ghana and extending through partnerships in parts of West and Central Africa.
The service combines linear broadcast channels with on-demand programming. Its catalogue has included Ghanaian networks such as UTV, GHOne, Joy Prime and Adom TV alongside international news outlets including CNN and BBC. The platform’s mobile app is available for iOS and Android, providing a digital route for viewers to access television programming on connected devices.
Streaming and distribution
2CTV focuses on mobile-first video delivery and carrier-integrated distribution. Its capabilities include:
- Live television and VOD streaming
- Adaptive-bitrate video delivery for 2G, 3G and 4G connections
- Mobile value-added services and low-bandwidth video access
- Digital channel publishing and distribution for African content creators
- Subscription billing through SMS, airtime and mobile money
Its Crystal adaptive-bitrate switching technology dynamically adjusts video resolution and bitrate to support viewing where bandwidth is constrained. This approach underpins the platform’s aim of making streamed television more practical on a range of mobile network connections.
Telecommunications partnerships
A significant part of 2CTV’s model is working with mobile operators on distribution, data and payment arrangements. In March 2017, it partnered with Tigo Ghana on the launch of Tigo Mobile TV, bringing more than 25 local and international channels to mobile devices. The platform has also supported airtime and mobile-wallet payment options through arrangements involving MTN and Vodafone Ghana, now Telecel.
2CTV has developed dedicated channel offerings as well as its broader streaming service. In 2018, it collaborated with actor Agya Koo and Ghana’s Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture on the Agya Koo TV mobile channel. Through its app, carrier relationships and content-distribution work, 2CTV operates as a specialist platform for African mobile video and digital broadcasting.
