About 22cans
22cans is an independent British video game developer and publisher based in Guildford, England. Founded in 2012 by Peter Molyneux, the studio focuses on god games, sandbox simulation and experimental interactive entertainment for PC, mobile and console audiences.
Its work centres on player-driven worlds: designing systems that let players shape landscapes, manage communities, experiment with social play and make consequential choices. The studio combines game design, 3D art and programming with self-publishing and live game operations.
Games and interactive worlds
22cans first gained international attention with Curiosity: What's Inside the Cube?, a large-scale mobile social experiment in which players collectively removed digital cubelets to uncover a secret. It followed this with Godus and Godus Wars, games that revisited the god-game tradition through terrain sculpting, civilisation-building and strategy.
The studio also created The Trail, a stylised exploration, survival and crafting adventure developed with publishing partner Kongregate. The game received “Best of 2016” recognition from Google Play and Apple’s App Store, and later expanded to PC and Nintendo Switch as The Trail: Frontier Challenge.
More recent work includes Legacy, a business-simulation project developed in partnership with Gala Games, and Masters of Albion, an open-world god and town-management simulation. Released for PC via Steam in April 2026, Masters of Albion brings together town building, world management and town-defence strategy in a fantasy setting.
