About 10tons
10tons is an independent video game developer and publisher based in Tampere, Finland. Founded in 2003 by university students Tero Alatalo and Sampo Töyssy, the studio develops and publishes its own multiplatform games across PC, consoles and mobile devices.
Its early breakthrough was the top-down shooter Crimsonland, first released in 2003. The company later broadened its catalogue through the MythPeople casual-game imprint, producing titles including Azkend and Sparkle, before expanding its releases to iOS, Android, PlayStation, Xbox and Nintendo platforms.
Development and publishing
10tons combines game design, software engineering, porting and publishing in-house. Its work spans action games, twin-stick shooters, action RPGs, survival-crafting games, roguelites and strategy-inflected titles. The studio uses a proprietary C++ multiplatform engine to support development, optimisation and deployment across desktop, mobile and home-console platforms.
The studio's catalogue includes:
- Dysmantle, an open-world post-apocalyptic action RPG
- Crimsonland, Neon Chrome, JYDGE and Tesla vs Lovecraft
- Undead Horde and Undead Horde 2: Necropolis
- Tesla Force, Skeletal Avenger, Time Recoil and Xenoraid
- The Sparkle series, Azkend, Tennis in the Face, Baseball Riot, King Oddball and Spellspire
Independent studio model
The company is founder-owned, self-funded and independent of a corporate parent. It finances new projects with proceeds from its catalogue and handles digital and physical multiplatform publishing internally. This approach supports a small core team working across original intellectual property and long-running game series.
More recently, 10tons has continued to build beyond its arcade-shooter roots. Dysmantle surpassed two million copies sold worldwide across digital and physical formats, while the studio has also announced the open-world survival action RPG Dysplaced and the roguehate shooter Jystice.
