About 1047 Games
1047 Games is an independent video game developer and publisher founded in 2017 by Stanford computer science graduates Ian Proulx and Nicholas Bagamian. The company began with a dorm-room project that combined first-person arena shooting with portal traversal, initially tested as Wormhole Wars before evolving into Splitgate: Arena Warfare.
The studio’s work centers on competitive multiplayer shooters built around fast movement, arena combat, and portal-based tactical play. It develops for PC and console platforms, with experience spanning cross-platform multiplayer architecture, live operations, community management, Unreal Engine engineering, and anti-cheat integration.
Games and technology
Splitgate reached PC early access in 2019 and expanded through a cross-play open beta on PC, PlayStation, and Xbox in 2021. The title’s combination of conventional FPS combat and player-created portal routes established the creative foundation for the studio’s subsequent projects.
Key capabilities include:
- First-person shooter and arena-combat development
- Portal traversal and high-mobility movement systems
- Unreal Engine 4 and Unreal Engine 5 engineering
- Cross-platform networking and multiplayer live-operations architecture
- In-house anti-cheat and security integration
In November 2022, the company acquired Swedish anti-cheat provider EQU8, bringing its anti-cheat engineering into 1047 Games’ development operations.
Recent direction
1047 Games released Splitgate 2 in 2025, later redesigning and rebranding it as SPLITGATE: Arena Reloaded, with the arena-based battle royale mode Arena Royale. In 2026, it entered early access with Empulse, a 6v6 arcade movement shooter featuring wall-running and mech piloting.
The studio operates with a permanently remote, distributed development model. Following restructuring and a change in strategy, it ended dedicated live-service server hosting for SPLITGATE: Arena Reloaded and Empulse in August 2026, moving the titles to peer-to-peer community architecture while pursuing a new creative direction.
