About Universidad de Diseño, Innovación y Tecnología

The Universidad de Diseño, Innovación y Tecnología (UDIT), formerly known as ESNE, is a private university in Madrid dedicated exclusively to design, technology, and applied creative disciplines. Established initially as a specialized university center and later chartered as an independent private university by the Madrid Assembly, UDIT has built its academic profile around the demands of the digital entertainment, animation, visual effects, and video game industries.

Studio-Aligned Pedagogy and Curriculum

UDIT grounds its coursework in an experiential "learning by doing" framework designed to simulate commercial production environments. Rather than isolating technical and artistic disciplines, the university fosters cross-disciplinary pipelines. In the video game curriculum, for instance, students in game design and development share their foundational first year with students in digital art and visual creation. This structure exposes aspiring artists to engine constraints and code requirements while training programmers to understand visual pacing and art direction.

Across undergraduate and postgraduate studies, student learning culminates in substantial capstone projects, portfolio building, and polished demo reels. Degree candidates receive regular critiques and project reviews from active industry practitioners, ensuring that their work meets professional production standards before graduation.

Production Pipelines and Software Training

Curricula across animation, VFX, and interactive media emphasize complete workflow proficiency over isolated tool mechanics. Visual effects and animation students train on industry-standard platforms, including Autodesk Maya and 3ds Max for modeling, rigging, and character animation; SideFX Houdini for procedural dynamic simulations, fluids, and destruction; and Foundry Nuke for multi-pass compositing. Two-dimensional animation pipelines incorporate Toon Boom Harmony and Storyboard Pro, while real-time asset generation and interactive development center on Unreal Engine, Unity, ZBrush, and the Substance suite.

Advanced postgraduate and permanent training modules offer deep specialization in technical direction, digital compositing, 3D rendering, and character rigging, catering to students seeking focused technical mastery.

Campus Infrastructure and Specialized Labs

Teaching at UDIT spans over 21,000 square meters across specialized campuses in Madrid:

  • International Campus of Design and Creative Industries: Situated on Avenida de Alfonso XIII in the Chamartín district, this campus serves as the primary base for animation and audiovisual design. Facilities include dedicated drawing classrooms, Wacom Cintiq laboratories, and multi-use collaborative workspaces.
  • Technology, Innovation, and Applied Sciences Campus: Located on Calle de Alcalá, this facility hosts technical degree tracks and vocational training cycles, housing high-performance computer laboratories and spaces configured for virtual and augmented reality development.
  • FabLab & MediaLab: The university's FabLab, accredited through the MIT-endorsed Fab Foundation network, provides additive and subtractive digital manufacturing equipment such as CNC milling machines, laser cutters, and 3D printers for physical prototyping. The MediaLab offers professional lighting, chroma-key stages, and digital cinema cameras to capture live-action plates for VFX compositing and animation reference.

In addition to its Madrid facilities, UDIT operates a digital campus delivering online degree tracks and vocational qualifications, supporting remote participation with live interactive sessions and digital project tracking.

Industry Alliances and Professional Integration

UDIT maintains structured alliances across the digital entertainment sector. The institution is an associated center of the PlayStation Talents Academy, an Unreal Academic Partner, and a member of industry organizations including the Spanish Video Game Association (AEVI) and the DEV developers association. Through curricular internships, collaborative game jams, and industry briefs, students work on practical problems and build relationships with major production houses and game development studios.
