About Tecnológico de Monterrey

Tecnológico de Monterrey (ITESM) is a private, multi-campus research university system established in 1943. Within its School of Architecture, Art, and Design, the university offers a flagship Bachelor of Arts in Digital Art (Licenciatura en Arte Digital) designed to train multidisciplinary creators for the animation, interactive media, VFX, and video game sectors.

The Tec21 Educational Model

The curriculum is built upon the proprietary Tec21 educational model, which replaces traditional lectures with a challenge-based framework. Students engage in production-oriented "blocks" that simulate the dynamics of professional studios. By executing end-to-end production pipelines—such as those found in "New Realities" and "Game Design" modules—students produce Minimum Viable Products (MVPs) and build industry-ready portfolios.

Technical Focus and Infrastructure

The institution emphasizes the convergence of film, game development, and interactive media. Instruction is centered on real-time rendering and technical adaptability, with a curriculum that incorporates industry-standard pipelines for 3D modeling and real-time environment creation. Students work within specialized facilities including "Arts and Science Labs" and "Makerspaces" distributed across major campuses, which provide the physical environment for digital experimentation.

Industry Integration

The university maintains a strong connection to the professional creative sector, with faculty often holding experience at global studios including Pixar, DreamWorks, and Nickelodeon. Collaborative workshops and internships with Latin American studios provide a pathway for students to transition into the workforce, while the annual VIBRART festival offers a national platform for exhibiting digital canvases, short films, and interactive installations.
