About Shoreline College

Located on an 83-acre campus north of Seattle, Washington, Shoreline College provides academic and technical training through its Visual Communications Technology (VCT) department and Fine Arts division. The institution combines traditional studio practices with modern digital production pipelines, preparing students for careers in the creative economy.

Pedagogical Model

The college employs a hybrid instructional model designed to separate software acquisition from conceptual application. Students master industry-standard tools through self-paced, online technical modules, allowing scheduled classroom and studio time to focus on higher-order design principles, project management, collaborative critique, and professional portfolio development.

Program Pathways

The VCT department offers a range of credentials, including short-term certificates and Associate of Applied Arts and Sciences (AAAS) degrees:

  • Animation/Video for Multimedia AAAS: Covers 2D and 3D content creation, character animation, digital video editing, and visual effects studio practices.
  • Game Art and Design AAAS: Focuses on the production of 2D/3D game levels, character modeling, texturing, rigging, and interactive mechanics.
  • Graphic Design AAAS: Emphasizes visual design fundamentals, typography, logo and identity creation, and digital illustration.

Facilities and Community

Instruction takes place in the Visual Arts Center, which features ten studio art laboratories and four specialized digital labs. The technical infrastructure includes Apple Macintosh workspaces, video editing suites, and access to professional cameras, lighting gear, and print production equipment. Beyond the curriculum, students participate in the VCT Club and various discipline-specific groups to engage in networking, software workshops, and exhibition opportunities.
