About Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile

Founded in 1888, the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile (UC) organizes its creative and media disciplines across distinct academic environments. Rather than concentrating visual disciplines in a single department, the university distributes studies across specialized faculties, notably the School of Art (Campus Oriente) and the School of Design (Campus Lo Contador).

Animation and Post-Production Pathways

UC provides specialized training in moving image disciplines primarily through continuing education diplomas and interdisciplinary undergraduate study:

  • Diplomado en Proyectos de Animación: Offered through the School of Art's Continuing Education division, this 270-hour postgraduate diploma is conducted entirely online via live classes. The curriculum approaches animation as an authorial artistic medium rather than a purely commercial studio pipeline. Students work across analog techniques—including frame-by-frame illustration and stop-motion—and transition into digital workflows using Adobe software for editing, color grading, and audio design. Each student develops an original aesthetic and narrative concept, culminating in a 30- to 60-second animated micro-short film.
  • Diseño de Motion Graphics y VFX, en After Effects: Taught via the School of Design, this applied course focuses on compositing, layering, and motion graphics workflows in Adobe After Effects. The program is geared toward practicing designers and media creators looking to incorporate motion graphics and visual effects into audiovisual production.
  • Minor en Videojuegos y Narrativas Interactivas: Housed within the interdisciplinary College UC framework, this undergraduate minor examines games through interactive storytelling and the broader cultural and economic landscape of the industry, including esports.
  • Animé: Conceptos y estética de la animación japonesa: A theoretical course that explores the stylistic, structural, and cultural foundations of Japanese animation.

Learning Environments

The university's creative disciplines are anchored in distinct campus settings in Santiago. Campus Oriente, located in a former neo-Romanesque convent in Providencia, serves as the home for fine arts and aesthetics, providing studio courtyards and dedicated exhibition venues such as the Macchina Gallery. Campus Lo Contador, situated on a historic colonial property, houses the School of Design alongside architecture and urban studies workshops and digital labs.
