About Nuova Accademia di Belle Arti

Nuova Accademia di Belle Arti (NABA) is a private academy of fine arts and design operating campuses in Milan and Rome, Italy. Founded in Milan in 1980, the academy is legally recognized by the Italian Ministry of University and Research under the Higher Education in Art and Music (AFAM) system, issuing academic diplomas equivalent to university degrees. NABA structures its education around an interdisciplinary approach that combines critical design thinking with direct collaborative production.

Creative Technologies Curricula

Digital entertainment and technical media programs at NABA are coordinated within the Media Design and New Technologies Area, focusing on the intersection of cinema, animation, visual effects, and game development.

  • Bachelor of Arts in Film and Animation: A three-year program introducing audiovisual craft and narrative fundamentals. The first year covers film history, camera operation, sound design, editing, and foundational animation. In the second year, students choose between Filmmaking and Animation tracks, focusing on directing, digital animation, 3D modeling, and VFX. The third year is dedicated to media production, copyright, and final thesis projects.
  • Bachelor of Arts in Creative Technologies: Focused on computer-generated imagery, real-time 3D, and interactive production, this undergraduate program splits into specializations in VFX and 3D or Game design. Coursework integrates real-time visual effects, motion capture, artificial intelligence, and virtual reality experience design.
  • Master of Arts in Creative Media Production: An advanced degree exploring interactive technologies, creative coding, human-computer interaction, extended reality (XR), and generative sound design.

Studio Facilities and Software Partnerships

In May 2021, NABA launched a dedicated Virtual Production set at its Milan campus, integrating real-time game engine rendering with physical LED walls for in-camera visual effects and live filmmaking production.

Curricula incorporate industry-standard production tools through formal developer certifications:

  • Epic Games: Recognized as an Unreal Academic Partner with Gold Status, integrating Unreal Engine, Twinmotion, and Reality Capture across real-time 3D and virtual production modules.
  • SideFX: Houdini Certified School teaching procedural workflows applied to visual effects, games, and film.
  • Toon Boom: Toon Boom Centre of Excellence utilizing Harmony and Storyboard Pro for 2D animation pipelines.
  • Blackmagic Design: Academic Partner integrating DaVinci Resolve for post-production editing and color grading.
  • The Rookies: Evaluated and designated as a Rookies Certified School based on student portfolio standards.
