About New3dge
New3dge is a private academy in Paris dedicated to digital arts education for the game and film industries. Founded in 2010, the school structures its curriculum around production-simulated workflows taught by active creative professionals, operating through intensive short sprints rather than traditional academic lecture cycles.
Curriculum Architecture
The academic progression begins with foundational fine art training before advancing into digital production:
- Preparatory and General Studies: Students develop traditional art foundations, covering plein air oil painting, academic drawing, morphology, and initial 3D blocking.
- Specialized Tracks: Upper-level studies branch into Game Art or 3D Animation & VFX. Training addresses advanced shading, node-based compositing, and real-time engine integration.
- Concept Art Track: A two-year intensive track focusing on world-building, character design, and spatial concept work through short-format mentor sprints and studio briefs.
The school emphasizes traditional competencies—such as anatomy, light, and composition—prior to complex digital work to ensure software serves as an extension of fundamental design principles.
Production Pipeline and Studio Collaboration
Training centers on multidisciplinary collaborative productions rather than isolated individual exercises. Capstone projects require students across disciplines to collaborate, with concept artists developing production designs that game art and animation students build and render into finished short films and interactive prototypes. Mentorship throughout production involves input from active studios, including Fortiche Production, Keos Masons, and Unit Image.
Graduates of the Game Art and 3D Animation & VFX specializations earn a Level 7 RNCP certification (Concepteur-Réalisateur de creative media et entertainment), recognized within the French educational framework as equivalent to a master's degree.
Campus Facilities and Software
Courses are delivered strictly in person at the academy's 1,800-square-meter campus in Paris, with no remote study tracks. The facilities include dual-monitor workstations, virtual reality headsets, a motion capture studio, and local render farms.
Technical instruction encompasses industry-standard digital tools, including Autodesk Maya, 3ds Max, Blender, ZBrush, Substance 3D Painter, Houdini, Nuke, and Unreal Engine 5. Concept art training also integrates virtual reality prototyping software such as Gravity Sketch and Medium.
