About National Taiwan University of Arts

Established in 1955 in New Taipei City's Banqiao District, National Taiwan University of Arts (NTUA) is Taiwan's oldest higher education institution dedicated to the creative arts. Digital production education at NTUA is anchored within a fine-arts foundation, integrating digital media techniques with classical aesthetics across its constituent colleges.

Digital Arts and Animation

The Department of Multimedia and Animation Arts (DMAA), situated within the College of Design, offers undergraduate training spanning 2D animation, 3D animation, multimedia design, digital arts, and game production theory. A notable element of the curriculum is its foundational emphasis on physical coordination and color recognition, helping students develop practical intuition for character mechanics, movement, texturing, and lighting.

Advanced research and development take place in the Digital Art Lab, established in 2001 within the DMAA. The lab supports interactive installations, experimental digital moving images, and digital performance projects, allowing students to explore real-time systems and interactive narrative forms.

Cinematic Production and Moving Image

The Department of Motion Picture, housed in the College of Communications, was the first dedicated film department established in Taiwan. The program emphasizes visual culture analysis, directing practice, and moving-image technology.

Production training is supported by specialized spaces, including a dedicated Film Studio, the MPD Library, and digital production equipment featuring ARRI ALEXA Mini LF camera systems. Students present their final projects through the annual NTUA MPD Graduation Film Festival, engaging directly with public exhibition workflows.

Sound and Spatial Media

In 2021, NTUA inaugurated a specialized Sound Lab featuring a 32.4 channel ambisonic system. This facility allows multimedia and film students to work with spatial audio and volumetric sound design, expanding creative possibilities for immersive media and interactive projects.
