About Maya Academy of Advanced Cinematics
Maya Academy of Advanced Cinematics (MAAC), established in 2001, is the media and entertainment education brand operated by Aptech Ltd. Operating across an extensive network of centers throughout India, MAAC prepares students for careers across the AVGC-XR (Animation, Visual Effects, Gaming, Comics, and Extended Reality) sectors, focusing on bridging the gap between foundational software training and commercial studio production requirements.
Educational Pathways: CareerX and CreatorX
To accommodate distinct career trajectories, MAAC organizes its curriculum into two primary frameworks:
- CareerX: Structured for studio pipeline integration, focusing on end-to-end production workflows, version control, role-specific portfolio development, and deadline management under professional review conditions.
- CreatorX: Tailored for the independent digital creator economy, emphasizing gig-economy readiness, original intellectual property development, personal branding, client project management, multi-platform publishing, and content monetization.
Curriculum and Technical Workflows
MAAC utilizes a "Script to Screen" instructional methodology that guides students through each phase of production. In programs such as the Advanced Program in Visual Effects (ADVFX Plus), foundational studies in storyboarding and cinematography progress into technical production tasks, including scene optimization using proxies and Level of Detail (LOD) systems, as well as CG-to-plate integration through LookDev and lighting setups.
The academy teaches a wide range of production tools across creative disciplines:
- Node-based compositing in Foundry Nuke
- Procedural simulations in Houdini, covering cloth, fluids, and pyrotechnics
- Asset creation, modeling, and texturing using Autodesk Maya and Adobe Substance 3D Painter
- Motion graphics and digital media supported by generative AI tools such as Comfy UI for rapid ideation and pre-visualization
Studio Simulation and Production Challenges
To prepare students for professional review processes, the academy incorporates project milestones that simulate studio crunch conditions. Flagship events such as the 24FPS International Animation Awards and the 100-Hour Short Film Challenge function as intensive production exercises where multi-disciplinary student teams collaborate to deliver finished cinematic work within strict deadlines. Projects are evaluated by active industry supervisors, providing students with direct feedback on their reels. Additional hands-on training includes live-action camera workflows and mirrorless capture technology through dedicated creator equipment kits.
