About CENTRO (Centro de Diseño, Cine y Televisión)
Located in Mexico City, CENTRO (Centro de Diseño, Cine y Televisión) combines technical computing, applied sciences, and creative media production across visual effects, animation, game development, and film. The institution emphasizes an interdisciplinary, project-oriented curriculum where computational methods and design thinking converge.
Production Facilities
Learning takes place in a purpose-built LEED Platinum-certified campus designed by architect Enrique Norten. Facilities are structured to mirror commercial production pipelines:
- Motion Capture: A 24-camera infrared motion capture system for character rigging, motion tracking, and procedural animation.
- Film Studios: Dual film and television sound stages supporting live-action and virtual production workflows.
- Maker Lab: Digital fabrication spaces featuring an ABB robotic arm for physical computing and rapid prototyping.
- Post-Production: 13 dedicated editing islands alongside 3 audio booths for sound design and real-time media processing.
Undergraduate & Dual-Degree Pathways
Undergraduate programs include the Bachelor in Creative Computing, Animation, and Film and Television. In the Creative Computing curriculum, programming serves as a core expressive medium, covering procedural animation, generative artificial intelligence systems, physical computing, and interactive narrative design. CENTRO is Latin America's first SideFX Houdini-certified university, anchoring its visual effects training in procedural node-based workflows. Students in Creative Computing can also pursue an international dual-degree pathway focused on video games and visual effects in partnership with NABA Milan. Film and television students train on high-end camera equipment supported by the first university-level ARRI certification in Latin America.
Postgraduate Programs & Formats
For continuing education, CENTRO provides specialized postgraduate qualifications, such as the Specialization in Creative Coding for Animation and Video and the Specialty in Video Game Design and Development. These courses operate on a hybrid schedule that pairs remote online classes with intensive in-person bootcamps on the Mexico City campus. Curricula address real-time rendering, photogrammetry for 3D modeling, and live multimedia show control systems using tools such as Pixera.
Students gain practical experience through initiatives such as the CENTRO Estudio platform, working on industry-partnered projects alongside active professionals.
