About Centennial College

Centennial College delivers its interactive media and game production curriculum through the School of Media and Creative Arts. Following a strategic restructuring that phased out traditional linear visual effects and 3D animation diplomas, the college centered its digital arts offerings around real-time interactive media, game art, game development, and programming.

Creative programs operate from Centennial's flagship Progress Campus in Scarborough, housed within the zero-carbon, mass-timber A-Building expansion. Designed around Indigenous principles of "two-eyed seeing" alongside Western sustainable architecture, the facility includes flexible computer laboratories, collaborative production spaces, and an Indigenous Commons, bringing digital arts students into regular proximity with technical and design cohorts.

Program Pathways

  • Game – Art: An intensive 16-month continuous diploma recognized as an Epic Games Unreal Engine Academic Partner. The curriculum focuses on asset generation, character design, and environment creation using real-time workflows, photogrammetry, and the Epic Games ecosystem for games, virtual production, and architectural visualization.
  • Game – Development: A three-year advanced diploma combining game art fundamentals with software design and project management, emphasizing rapid iteration, cross-functional team coordination, and mobile game production.
  • Game – Programming: A three-year technical pathway focusing on object-oriented programming, real-time graphics rendering, physics simulation, multiplayer networking, and artificial intelligence integration.
  • Art and Design Fundamentals: A foundational certificate delivered synchronously online that introduces core drawing, colour theory, 3D modelling, and visual concepts, functioning as a portfolio-development springboard into full diploma tracks.

Applied Learning with STORYWORKS

A central component of study across the media faculty is the STORYWORKS initiative. Rather than working solely on internal classroom assignments, students complete a 14-week experiential course tackling real production briefs for external clients, including cultural organizations and community enterprises. These projects require cross-disciplinary teams to produce public-facing digital deliverables under real-world project deadlines, developing client management skills alongside technical portfolio assets.
