About the role
About the Company
New York technology company launching a live broadcast studio.
The Project
Development of a live broadcast studio utilizing green-screen virtual production. The setup involves Unreal Engine 5 and Aximmetry (Broadcast edition with AX Scene Editor), using locked camera shots with no tracking and virtual camera movement. The output is 1080p60 in 16:9 and a 9:16 vertical cut, running on a single RTX 5090 workstation. NDA is required upon signature; references will be shared after the NDA.
The Work
The goal is to create one hero set: a dark, cinematic, photoreal real-time interior. The aesthetic is a near-future control room meets a modern intelligence-operations center, characterized as restrained, expensive, and not sci-fi kitsch. The centerpiece is a 3-seat arc anchor desk, with a 4-seat variant for a second studio. You will build, light, and operate the set inside Aximmetry with presenters keyed in.
Responsibilities
- Model, dress, and light the set in UE5 (Lumen, Nanite, Megascans) to a photoreal, high-end register. Lighting is critical, specifically for dark reflective floors, glass, and brushed metal under studio lighting from three fixed cameras.
- Create three states on one set: standard, cinematic dark, and breaking-red. These must be switchable live by an operator without touching Unreal.
- Package the project for Aximmetry (Unreal for Aximmetry / AX Scene Editor) and verify it loads and holds a locked 60 fps in the current Aximmetry release with headroom for keying and live inputs.
- Implement a talent placement layer including billboards, shadow planes, reflection catchers, and floor contact for convincing integration. Match virtual lighting to the physical key, fill, and rim lights on set.
- Build a virtual camera library featuring wides, singles per seat, push-ins, and a signature opener, all triggered from Aximmetry.
- Wire in-set screens as live NDI inputs through Aximmetry.
- Provide documentation and hand-off to ensure a technical operator can run the show without assistance.
Qualifications
Must Have
- Shipped virtual production or live broadcast work in Unreal Engine, specifically sets that ran with real presenters keyed in (not just beauty renders).
- Proven ability to perform photoreal real-time lighting in UE5.
- Aximmetry experience strongly preferred; strong backgrounds in Vizrt, Zero Density, or Pixotope will be considered if the candidate can demonstrate equivalent work and transition to Aximmetry quickly.
- Green-screen compositing craft, including matched light direction and color temperature, clean floor contact, and no fringe.
- UE5 performance discipline, including expertise in Lumen, Nanite, LODs, texture budgets, and the judgment to optimize geometry for fixed camera angles.
Nice to Have
- News or live-event set design credits.
- Experience with NDI, DMX, Stream Deck / Bitfocus Companion, or OBS in a live chain.
- Motion graphics skills for in-set screens.
- Located in US or Europe time zones with working overlap to New York.
Engagement
- Remote position.
- Engagement model: Hourly or fixed bid.
- Timeline: Immediate start; six to eight weeks to first air.
- Ongoing work is likely, including additional sets, seasonal variants, and event builds.
How to Apply
Submit the following:
- CV.
- Two or three links to sets running live with keyed talent (video preferred).
- Details on which Aximmetry edition and version you last shipped on (or comparable engine).
- Rate.
- Availability.
- Time zone.
- Note: Applications without a live-composite example will not be reviewed.
