The Role
As Technical Team Lead, you own the technical health of one of our games, including the architecture, code quality, and the engineering standard the team ships to. You are the lead engineer the team looks to when a decision is genuinely hard, and you are accountable for the "how" behind everything that goes out the door. This role reports to the Head of Game Development. It is a hands-close leadership role: close enough to the code to earn the team's trust, senior enough to set the bar and hold it.
Your Mission
- Own Technical Health: Define architecture, code quality, and engineering standards. Hold the technical picture for your title and decide where it goes next.
- Lead and Grow Engineers: Manage performance, provide honest feedback, support career development, and create conditions for the team to do its best work. Coach for autonomy.
- Collaborate with Production: Own the "how" and engineering estimates. Work with your Producer who owns the delivery plan and schedule. Maintain joint sign-off on estimates with a clear veto/escalation path for unrealistic dates.
- Surface Risk Early: Identify and report risks to the Producer, Head of Product, and Head of Game Development before they become blockers.
- Quality Assurance: Define "done" to include quality. Test early and often, monitor what you ship, and hold the line day-to-day.
- Build for the Long Term: Protect a sustainable pace over crunch. Invest in developer experience and treat stability and security as core design considerations.
Your Backstory
- Engineering Foundation: Strong, hands-on experience in Unity/C#. Technically credible with experience owning architecture and code for live games.
- Leadership Track Record: Experience leading a game or product team as a senior engineer, owning technical direction and shipping standards.
- Team Growth: Demonstrated ability to provide feedback, develop careers, and handle difficult conversations.
- Accountability: Experience scoping, sequencing work, and standing behind estimates with the ability to push back when necessary.
- Communication: Trusted, straight-talking communicator who surfaces problems early.
- Live-Ops Expertise: Experience shipping and operating live mobile free-to-play (F2P) games. Understanding of release cadences, store constraints, and long-term codebase health.
- Language: Fluent English, both verbal and written.
Nice to Have Skills
- Enthusiasm for strategy games and understanding of player retention.
- Deep live-ops experience on long-running titles (seasonal content, events, updates).
- Depth in additional stack layers: JavaScript/HTML5/TypeScript, PHP, Node.js, or Java (client, backend, or game server).
- Experience navigating shared-vs-independent codebase decisions, service extraction, and forking strategies.

- Global Team: A diverse workforce with over 30 nationalities united by a shared passion for strategy games.
