About the role
Role Overview
Own testing for Europa Universalis V, focusing on automation, smarter triage, and developing a small internal QA team. This is a hands-on role involving both high-level strategy and active game testing.
Responsibilities
- Grow test automation and expand regression coverage with each update.
- Build faster, smarter triage processes to cut noise and improve bug prioritization, utilizing AI where appropriate.
- Create dashboards and quality tracking metrics to visualize the state of testing via data.
- Shape the functional QA process, including test planning, coverage, merge-list curation, and backlog health across concurrent update branches.
- Collaborate with the external QA partner to ensure testing follows a clear, prioritized queue.
- Represent QA in sign-offs and milestone decisions, justifying severity based on player impact.
- Mentor analysts, onboard new joiners, and communicate QA methodology to the wider project team.
- Participate in testing, planning, and decision-making alongside team members.
Qualifications
- 5+ years in games QA, including at least one shipped or live title.
- Hands-on experience with test automation or a documented track record of reducing manual testing efforts.
- Experience working with an external QA partner or outsourced test team.
- Proven history of improving testing practices, tools, or workflows.
- Strong risk-based judgment and ability to prioritize under constraints.
- Practical use of AI tools in QA, or solid prompting fundamentals and an appetite to build with them.
- Proficiency with Jira (or equivalent).
- Clear, direct communication skills in English.
Preferred Qualifications
- Paradox grand strategy experience (especially Europa Universalis).
- Scripting or programming skills (Paradox script, Python, C++).
- Hands-on experience with QA automation frameworks.
- Experience with live titles and recurring update cadences.
- Localisation QA experience or experience working with multi-language builds.
