ROLE OVERVIEW
The Level Design Intern will join the Design team working on Fortnite. This role focuses on utilizing experience, design tools, and a sense of scale to improve the visual quality of the game and create new player experiences. Level Designers are part of a cross-discipline content team developing levels that expand the Fortnite universe.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Work closely with level designers and environment artists to learn the requirements for successful Fortnite landmarks and points of interest (POIs).
- Work in Unreal Engine using modular kits to design visually appealing and fun locations that follow gameplay rules.
- Assist other designers by improving existing landmarks and POIs.
- Attend playtests, provide feedback, and identify practical solutions to design problems.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Technical Skills:
- Unreal Engine experience is required.
- Direct involvement with prop placement, lighting, mood/atmosphere, and design markup.
- Competencies:
- Passion for games with a wide range of game experiences.
- Strong interest in Battle Royale and multiplayer games with an understanding of game design mechanics.
- Ability to be a fast learner who meets deadlines.
- Perseverance when facing frustration; capacity to learn from failed attempts.
- Ability to receive feedback well, adjust, and adapt; no space for ego.
- Strong communication skills; ability to effectively sync information with multiple teams and manage attention across multiple aspects simultaneously.
- Ability to solve problems independently and recognize when to reach out to senior teammates for assistance.
PROGRAM DETAILS
- Internship start date is flexible in 2027.
