About the role
Project Overview
We’re looking for a lead comic book artist to visually build an original science-fiction adventure.
The project is a science-fiction adventure about a young man who risks everything to cross the frontier and uncover what really happened to his father, a pioneering chemist and explorer who vanished years earlier on a distant planet.
Scope of Work
You would be responsible for the complete visual development and artwork of the first issue, which consists of 37 pages. Responsibilities include:
- Character design for the principal cast
- World and environment design
- Architecture, clothing, technology, props, and vehicles
- Establishing the visual language
- Page layouts and thumbnails
- Sequential panel composition and storytelling
- Pencils and finished linework
- Color
- 37 finished interior pages
- Issue #1 cover artwork
Lettering can be handled separately.
Visual Direction
The style is retro-futuristic science fiction. The goal is for it to feel imaginative, strange, tactile, and lived-in rather than like generic superhero sci-fi.
Compensation and Collaboration
- This is a paid project, with rates to be discussed if the applicant is chosen.
- The company is particularly interested in finding an emerging artist who wants to become a meaningful creative collaborator if Issue #1 goes well.
- The production plan is to release one issue every month.
- Finalists will be offered a paid test page before the artist for Issue #1 is selected.
