What You'll Do
Epic Games is seeking an experienced Senior Language Programmer to join the Verse team, which owns the toolchain (compiler, VM, and runtime) that powers game development in Unreal Engine and UEFN. You will work on the systems every UE and UEFN developer relies on to build and ship games with Verse.
Responsibilities include:
- Extend, evolve, and maintain the Verse compiler toolchain, transactional memory runtime and VM, add new platform support, implement new language features and integrate with Unreal Engine's content, build, and cooking pipelines.
- Optimize performance, memory usage, and iteration times across the Verse toolchain, runtime and UE/Verse boundary.
- Work closely with language consumers to ensure an exceptional user experience.
- Establish test workflows to validate improvements and prevent regressions.
- Design and maintain the scripting interface to Unreal Engine, working in close collaboration with the Verse Language team and the broader UE engineering organization.
What We're Looking For
- Expert knowledge: C++17 or later.
- Compiler/Toolchain experience: Experience in compiler or toolchain development (e.g., compiler internals, VM design, Clang/LLVM, or linker/platform ABI specifics).
- Optimization: Experience developing and optimizing large codebases, with the ability to make tradeoffs between usability, performance, and power.
- Systems Thinking: Strong ability to reason about large, interconnected systems.
- Software Engineering: Solid grounding in software engineering principles, including API design.
- Soft Skills: Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work autonomously and deliver practical solutions.
- Bonus Skills: Experience with Unreal Engine integration is a plus.
