Role Overview

The Game Engine Developer joins the Shared Tech organization, specifically within Game Production. Shared Tech acts as a B2B organization providing technology for live games, including data infrastructure, machine learning, payments, and game engines. The vision of Shared Tech is We are the stage where King games love to perform. This role focuses on game-changing tooling and infrastructure to enable content creators to build features faster, easier, and more reliably.


Responsibilities

  • Develop the game engine, refine new and existing features, and design, implement, and maintain in-house tools embedded directly within products.
  • Collaborate with current and future users of the Game Engine, bridging various crafts within King to optimize, improve, and discover workflows across games.
  • Deliver high quality and well-structured code.
  • Improve quality and performance inside the products landscape.
  • Share knowledge and best practices with peers and game teams.
  • Drive and support feature adoption with stakeholders in game teams across King.
  • Work across multiple teams to facilitate architectural decisions and hands-on development to support smaller feature teams.
  • Monitor development in real-time to determine how to best support the development team.
  • Improve the feedback loop, making it easier for teams to adopt tools and for the team to learn what is effective.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Programming:
    • Strong C++ knowledge and experience.
    • Python knowledge with experience.
  • Soft Skills:
    • Strong communication and collaboration skills.
    • High degree of empathy for end users.
    • Ability to work closely with cross-discipline teams.
    • Self-starter, curious, and a fast learner.
    • Comfortable context switching to provide support across teams.
  • Technical Competencies:
    • Experienced with testing, automation, and continuous integration.
    • High sense of code quality and polish.
    • Ability to develop on multiple platforms: Windows and OSX.
    • Experience with performance-critical software is a bonus.

Bonus Points

  • Experience with game editor extension systems (e.g., Unity Editor scripting, Unreal Editor tooling, or custom C++/Qt editor frameworks).
  • Familiarity with using observability tools (e.g., Sentry, Grafana).
  • Experience with Cloud frameworks/technologies (GCP, Docker, k8s, etc.).
  • Experience facilitating workshops or leading technical presentations internally.
