About the role
About the Role
This is an on-site role based in Singapore. Candidates must be willing to relocate to or work on-site in Singapore.
We are looking for an experienced Environment / Level Artist to join our realistic Western-style mobile game project. This role focuses on building high-quality in-engine environments in Unity, including terrain creation, level dressing, lighting, atmosphere, material presentation, and scene optimization.
The ideal candidate has strong artistic judgment, solid Unity production experience, and hands-on experience using AI tools to accelerate environment concepting, asset breakdown, and production workflows.
Responsibilities
- Build high-quality realistic game environments in Unity, covering terrain creation, scene composition, level dressing, lighting, atmosphere, and final in-engine polish.
- Plan and organize modular environment assets, scene resources, and production structure to ensure efficient collaboration and implementation.
- Balance visual quality and runtime performance through practical scene optimization, resource management, and performance-aware design.
- Work closely with concept artists, 3D artists, designers, programmers, and TA teams to ensure the visual intention of each environment is accurately implemented in engine.
- Participate in environmental storytelling by using composition, props, lighting, terrain, and details to strengthen immersion and world-building.
- Use AI tools throughout the environment design pipeline to improve production efficiency, expand visual exploration, and support faster iteration.
- Create AI-assisted environment concepts, scene layout proposals, terrain ideas, architectural groups, natural landscapes, and prop/asset references based on project needs and world-building requirements.
- Break down AI-generated environment concepts into practical production references, including modular assets, architecture, props, vegetation, terrain components, and structural guidelines for 3D production.
- Review, refine, and correct AI-generated visuals to address issues such as inaccurate proportions, inconsistent style, unclear structures, or unrealistic spatial logic.
- Help establish reusable AI workflows for environment concepting, asset breakdown, visual reference generation, and Unity implementation.
Requirements
- 5+ years of experience in 3D environment art, level art, or in-engine scene production.
- Shipped or fully participated in at least 2 Unity game projects.
- Strong art fundamentals, including composition, color, lighting, shape language, material readability, and realistic visual presentation.
- Solid understanding of realistic environment art, including lighting, atmosphere, spatial composition, PBR materials, terrain, architecture, and natural landscapes.
- Strong Unity experience, including scene setup, terrain editing, lighting, light baking, post-processing, and environment polish.
- Familiar with Unity URP/HDRP workflows and post-processing features such as volumetric fog, ambient occlusion, color grading, and lighting adjustments.
- Understanding of scene optimization techniques, such as Draw Call reduction, texture streaming, mesh optimization, LODs, batching, and performance troubleshooting.
- Familiar with Unity integration workflows with DCC tools such as Maya, Blender, 3ds Max, Substance Painter, Substance Designer, or ZBrush.
- Proficient in at least one major 3D software package, such as Maya, Blender, or 3ds Max, with the ability to create or modify simple environment assets.
- Experience creating realistic PBR materials using Substance Painter / Designer or similar tools.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with art, design, programming, and technical art teams.
- Passion for games and a strong sense of ownership in visual quality and production efficiency.
AI Workflow Requirements
- Strong hands-on experience with mainstream AI image generation and AI-assisted environment design tools.
- Ability to write accurate prompts based on world-building, gameplay needs, art direction, and environment requirements.
- Capable of generating high-quality realistic Western-style environment concepts, panoramic layout ideas, terrain studies, architectural clusters, natural landscapes, and mood references.
- Able to break down AI-generated scenes into usable production references, including individual assets, modular structures, props, vegetation, terrain pieces, and material directions.
- Able to refine AI outputs manually to ensure consistency in style, lighting, scale, structure, and realistic visual quality.
- Capable of building or contributing to standardized AI-assisted environment workflows from concept generation to asset breakdown and Unity implementation.
Nice to Have
- Experience on AAA, console-quality, or high-end mobile projects.
- Experience working on successful SLG, strategy, survival, military, post-apocalyptic, or realistic Western-style projects.
- Familiarity with tools such as World Creator, SpeedTree, Gaea, Houdini, or similar terrain / vegetation / procedural environment tools.
- Mature experience using AI tools in an actual game production pipeline.
- Ability to independently complete the full process from AI-assisted concepting to asset breakdown and Unity scene implementation.
- Strong interest in SLG games and realistic world-building.
Portfolio Requirements
Please include a portfolio showing realistic environment work created or implemented in Unity.
Portfolio should demonstrate:
- Unity environment scenes from design to final in-engine implementation.
- Terrain editing, level dressing, lighting, atmosphere, material quality, and scene polish.
- Understanding of performance optimization and production constraints.
- AI-assisted environment design cases, if available.
- Clear examples of the workflow from AI concept exploration to environment layout design to asset breakdown to Unity implementation and optimization.
- AI-generated realistic environment concepts, scene mood images, asset breakdown sheets, modular references, or production-ready visual references are highly preferred.
