Job Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled and creative VFX Artist to help develop visually stunning and realistic effects for our projects. The ideal candidate is passionate about Visual Effects, possesses a strong artistic eye, and has a solid technical background in implementation. This role offers the flexibility to work remotely in the UK or from our West Midlands office in Birmingham/Worcestershire.
Key Responsibilities
- Create and implement high-quality visual effects that align with the artistic vision and technical requirements of the project.
- Collaborate with the Art and Design teams to understand and interpret their vision, providing creative input and ideas whilst keeping quality and style consistent.
- Ensure content is optimized for real-time rendering engines, meeting quality and performance targets and complying with project-specific constraints.
- Work closely with Leads and the Production team to prioritize tasks, incorporate feedback, meet milestones, and deliver high-quality work on time.
- Problem-solve technical issues and workflow challenges within your field.
- Stay up to date with new workflows, toolsets, and software that could benefit the wider team and actively contribute to pipeline improvements.
- Support the wider Art team by providing guidance and support to junior artists, sharing knowledge, and helping them grow their skills.
Required Qualifications & Skills
- A portfolio demonstrating a strong artistic eye for impact, timing, and visual flair across a range of VFX styles.
- Highly proficient in using real-time particle editors such as Unreal Engine’s Niagara VFX system to create game-ready content from concept to implementation.
- Experience with Unreal Engine’s art pipeline.
- Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills with the ability to find innovative solutions to technical challenges.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with a support-focused mindset, able to communicate and collaborate effectively.
- Ability to give and receive critique constructively.
- Proven ability to manage time effectively, work under deadlines, and maintain a high quality bar.
- A passion for bringing impactful visual effects to life in a game environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous shipped title(s) within a relevant game art production pipeline.
- Skills in adjacent areas such as Blueprint, lighting, animation, or modelling.
- Knowledge of accessibility standards and best practices.
- Experience collaborating with remote or distributed teams.
Experience Requirements
Demonstrated ability to be creative and think critically about what specific effects should achieve. Self-motivated with pride in your work. Able to work and communicate well within a team and studio environment. Proactive in discussing how VFX could be improved and adaptive in mastering new tools as needed. Able to take critique and guidance well and manage time effectively to create the highest quality particle systems.
