About the Position
We seek an experienced and talented Material Artist to join our passionate team. As a Material Artist, you will play a crucial role in crafting the visual identity of our games by creating and maintaining a diverse library of textures and materials for a wide range of 3D assets across our game productions. Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with the Art and Technical teams in developing advanced shaders, smart materials, and tileable textures that elevate our games and add value to the game development process.
- Work closely with Directors, Art Leads, and fellow artists to create texture maps for in-game assets while following and enforcing technical guidelines.
- Create and maintain texture graphs and materials using tools like Substance Designer.
- Ensure visual consistency in textures and materials throughout the entire project, proactively and independently looking for solutions that support art quality improvements.
- Ensure the solution meets the performance requirements of the project.
- Document production workflows and mentor artists in current pipelines and industry-standard methods.
- Be responsible for seamlessly integrating your work into the material and tool libraries.
- Collaborate with other teams in problem-solving production challenges with a creative approach.
- Work with artists to revise and respond based on feedback for both aesthetic and technical requirements.
- Provide guidance and assistance to the Art Team as they develop and implement their work throughout the game pipelines.
- Manage workload effectively during sprint times and resolve any issues in collaboration with the Lead and Producer.
Required Qualifications & Skills
- Strong skills in creating textures, both realistic and with a refined artistic interpretation, while maintaining a cohesive visual direction and adhering to the guidelines outlined in the Art Bible.
- Proven experience creating Materials, Textures, and Shaders.
- Strong understanding of PBR workflows, UVs, and surface/light interaction.
- Proficiency in software such as Substance Designer, Substance Painter, Quixel Mixer, or equivalent tools.
- Experience working with photogrammetry and scanned textures, adapting, tweaking, and combining as needed by the project style and theme.
- A portfolio showcasing expertise in developing high-quality, game-ready textures.
- Strong knowledge of Unreal Engine 5, Material Editor, and the texture setup and optimization process.
- English at a communicative level with effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong work ethic and excellent interpersonal skills including teamwork, problem-solving, and adaptability.
- Proactive in voicing concerns and constructively raising issues.
- Ability to improve and establish processes to enhance material and texture creation workflows and streamline the pipeline.
- Examples of procedural textures used on props and environments.
- Good grasp of color theory and lighting.
- Experience with project management tools such as Jira, Clickup, Confluence, etc.
Bonus Points
- At least two years of professional experience in the game development industry as a Texture/Material Artist.
