Job Summary
Intrepid Studios is looking for a Lighting Artist who can work with initial guidance on lighting areas of the map. The ideal candidate has a strong understanding of lighting in Unreal Engine 5 (UE5) and knows how to set up lighting for different scenarios. This Lighting Artist should be open to critiques and able to apply feedback to their scenes. The candidate must have at least one shipped AAA title and strong communication skills to collaborate effectively with other departments in a team environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Work with a strong background in real-time game lighting, considering performance and gameplay dynamics.
- Apply thorough expertise in lighting principles, color theory, form, and value to craft impactful visual experiences.
- Demonstrate proficiency in composition and color grading techniques to realize the desired aesthetic vision.
- Collaborate closely with other departments and take feedback constructively to improve lighting scenes.
Required Qualifications & Skills
- Professional experience in game development as an Associate Lighting Artist.
- Experience with standard industry tools such as Unreal Engine, Photoshop, Houdini, etc.
- Experience with real-time Global Illumination (GI) based lighting systems, preferably Unreal Engine 5 and Lumen.
- Strong knowledge of lighting in real-time engines.
- Strong understanding of atmospherics, fog systems, and their use in engine to enhance lighting.
- Experience with Lumen, Physically Based Rendering (PBR), materials, and buffer visualization tools to identify material issues.
- Knowledge of working within the EV100 system and HDR lighting pipelines.
- Understanding of color grading to establish mood or feeling.
- Basic understanding of lighting optimization.
- Strong understanding of fundamentals of lighting, color theory, form, and value.
- Ability to communicate complicated lighting issues effectively with diverse audiences including artists, engineers, managers, and designers.
- At least one AAA game shipped.

Benefits & Compensation
We offer competitive pay based on market standards plus a significant annual bonus structure. The base salary for this role ranges from $66,000 – $99,000, depending on skills and experience. Individual compensation decisions are based on factors including experience level, skillset, and internal equity relative to peers.
All posted positions are full-time with generous medical benefit options covered 100% by the employer for employees and dependents, plus paid vacation & sick days, and 401k with matching.
