Job Summary
Wētā FX is now accepting applications from highly motivated and enthusiastic FX Technical Directors (FXTDs) to join our talented teams onsite for a number of exciting projects starting in Q1 & Q2, 2025.
Our FX team is comprised of more than 100 of the world’s leading FX TDs who help solve a diverse variety of VFX problems, working closely with other departments across Wētā FX. FX is integral to Wētā’s R&D efforts, pipeline, and workflows, which continue to adapt to the increasing focus on FX-driven VFX.
This is a unique opportunity to play a key role in maintaining and building a team that sits at the juncture between creativity and technology in a company that continues to push the boundaries of the VFX craft.
We are specifically looking for FX Artists with experience in Water & Magic effects.
Location: Our preference is for these roles to be based onsite at one of our hubs in Wellington, New Zealand, or Melbourne, Australia. Remote options may also be considered with show approval.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate effectively as a strong team player within a creative and technical environment.
- Contribute to FX problem-solving across a variety of VFX projects.
- Work closely with other departments to integrate FX work into the overall production pipeline.
- Maintain and build the FX team’s capabilities and workflows.
Required Qualifications & Skills
- 5+ years’ experience as an FX artist on feature films.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Generalist knowledge of Houdini, including Flip, Pyro, RBD, etc.
- Proficiency in Linux operating systems.
- Comfortable collaborating in a team environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience running water simulations in production.
- Experience developing early looks for magical and abstract FX in production.
