Job Summary
Wētā FX is accepting applications from highly motivated and enthusiastic FX Technical Directors (FXTDs) to join our talented teams for a number of exciting projects starting in Q1 & Q2, 2025.
Our FX team comprises more than 100 of the world’s leading FX TDs who solve a diverse variety of VFX challenges, collaborating closely with other departments. FX is integral to Wētā’s R&D efforts, pipeline, and workflows, which continue to evolve with an increasing focus on FX-driven visual effects.
This is a unique opportunity to play a key role in maintaining and building a team at the intersection of creativity and technology in a company that pushes the boundaries of the VFX craft.
Location: Ideally based in Vancouver, Canada, eligible to work and available to start within the next couple of months. Remote options may be considered elsewhere in Canada with show approval.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate effectively as a strong team player and communicator within the FX team and across departments.
- Contribute to solving complex VFX problems using FX techniques and technologies.
- Support and help build a creative and technical FX team environment.
- Work on FX-driven VFX projects using Houdini and Linux-based workflows.
Required Qualifications & Skills
- 5+ years’ experience as an FX artist on feature films.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Strong collaboration and teamwork abilities.
- Generalist knowledge of Houdini, including Flip, Pyro, RBD, etc.
- Proficiency in Linux operating systems.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience running water simulations in production.
- Experience developing early looks for magical and abstract FX in production.
Benefits & Compensation
Rate expectations: $50-60 CAD per hour.
