Kilkenny-based Cartoon Saloon is a three time Academy Award, Golden Globe, BAFTA and Emmy nominated animation studio formed by Paul Young, Tomm Moore and Nora Twomey in 1999. From award-winning shorts to feature films and TV series, Cartoon Saloon has carved a special place in the international Animation industry. In 2010 the studios first feature film, The Secret of Kells, was nominated for an Academy Award and in 2015 Tomm Moores follow up feature, Song of the Sea, garnered Moore a second Oscar Nomination and a first nomination for Producer Paul Young. Golden Globe and Academy Award nominated The Breadwinner was released in the US and Canada in November 2017 to huge critical acclaim. Directed by Cartoon Saloons Nora Twomey, it is based on the internationally acclaimed young adult novel of the same name by Canadian author Deborah Ellis. It was co-produced with Canadas Aircraft Pictures, Luxembourgs Melusine Productions and in association with Jolie Pas Productions. It is due for release in the UK and Ireland on May 25th, 2018 Their Emmy nominated preschool series, Puffin Rock, is currently being broadcast worldwide on Netflix in over 25 languages and on Tencent streaming service where it is close to 100 million views in China alone. Cartoon Saloon are currently working on a development slate of their own work while also in early pre-production of a number of projects including 2 new TV Series, Dorg van Dango and Viking Skool, and Tomm Moores 3rd feature Wolfwalkers, which is due to start production later this year.
