Job Summary
Luma Pictures is seeking a Senior level Asset Artist with expertise in modeling (organic and hard surface), texturing, surface/look development, and experience with hair and fur for their Vancouver team. This role is within the VFX film industry and is a work-from-home position for candidates residing in British Columbia, Canada, with legal work rights.
Key Responsibilities
- Create clean and efficient models based on creative briefs and/or reference materials.
- Demonstrate efficiency in UV layout and strong polygonal subdivision skills.
- Exhibit strong look development, R&D, and lighting skills from both artistic and technical perspectives.
- Maintain, alter, or update models as required by client or supervisor feedback.
- Interpret abstract ideas into compelling photorealistic or stylized assets.
- Facilitate the creation of high-quality texture maps prior to publishing to ensure consistency.
- Mentor and motivate fellow Asset Artists to grow their craft using the latest techniques.
Required Qualifications & Skills
- At least 6 years of experience as an Asset Artist in a VFX production environment, including modeling (organic and hard surface), texturing, surface/look development, and hair and fur experience.
- A cultivated aesthetic sense and keen eye for detail.
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, computer graphics, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Mastery in creating both organic and hard surface models with efficient topology.
- Proficiency in Maya, ZBrush, and Mari.
- Experience with hair and fur.
- Highly efficient UV layout experience using a UDIM workflow.
- Technical understanding of color space.
- Strong communication and organizational skills.
- Ability to take direction and implement feedback with a positive attitude.
- Approachable, proactive, and accommodating attitude.
- Strong time management skills and ability to balance priorities under deadline pressure.
- Team-oriented mentality with a “get it done” attitude.
- Ability to thrive in a high-pressure environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of Katana, Mudbox, and Substance Painter.
- Understanding of plate and image-based lighting as well as full CG lighting.
- Basic compositing skills in Nuke.
- Technical Director skills such as Python or C++ (preferred but not required).
- Understanding of multi-pass rendering and 3D scene layout.
- Innate desire to stay informed of current technologies.
Education Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in computer science, computer graphics, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Benefits & Compensation
Hourly Rate: $55 – $70
