Junior 3D Layout Artist

Job Summary
We are looking for a Junior Layout Artist who is interested in cinematography and animation to join us for an exciting production here at Blue Zoo! As a Junior Layout Artist you will work alongside our Director and Animation Director to refine final camera movements to support the final story. You will also help develop the previsualisation of a high-end CG TV series, in line with approved episodic storyboards.
To be successful in the role, we are looking for an artist who can design shots and translate traditional filmmaking principles into 3D software. Due to the requirements of the production, the successful candidate will need to be based in the UK. Currently, we’re unable to consider VISA sponsorship.
This opportunity is due to start in early June 2025. Please note that this vacancy can close early if we receive a high number of applications.
Key Responsibilities
- Work with the Director and Animation Director to build scene set ups in line with approved client storyboards
- Create rough layouts, defining the initial blocking of character animation and cameras within a scene
- Ensure all scenes are working within the required pipeline set up to be delivered to the animation department
- Adapt and refine cameras based on Director critiques and changes
- Liaise with the Storyboard, Assets and Animation departments to create layouts that work towards the Director’s intended vision
Required Qualifications & Skills
- Working knowledge of Maya and clean scene set ups
- Demonstrable artistic skills including a strong sense of composition and perspective, the knack to create atmosphere and a good understanding of editing
- Good understanding of cinematography, pacing, timing and general filmmaking concepts
- Knowledge of CG Animation techniques
- Knowledge of a CG pipeline
- Proactive learner who responds positively to feedback
- Strong communication skills
